Splatterreah - Speed Shit + Live at the Axiom

Similar to: Grindcore / Death Metal / Noisegrind / Noisecore

If you've looked around this blog at all you'll see that I have a real passion for dirty sounding grind. This post is yet another affirmation of that. A demo and live recording of death metal influenced grind. The sound is similar to some noisecore but I think that has more to do with the recording quality than the intentions of the band. I don't think this technically counts as noisecore. However, both recordings are VERY raw and bass heavy (especially the live album which is the better of the two in my opinion). Filthy non commercial grindcore at its absolute best. A few things I've seen on the internet suggest that they may have had racist band members but I can't find any evidence of that in the music itself. All the songs seem to be random gore-inspired trash. They were meant to be offensive so they probably just did most things for shock value.

Here is their bio on Encyclopedia Metallum (please excuse the typos I didn't write it):
Despite to belief, Splatterreah never signed to Relapse Records. They were supposed to be the first release on Relapse but the drummer had a verbal disagreement after it was revealed that Relapse was going to pull a fast one and try to rip the band off so the band decided not to do the deal and to also stay away from commercialism and the drummer cursed out the founder of Relapse.

The band released a 1989 demo/reh, a 1990 demo and a 1990 7 inch. Scott who is on the 7-inch was just filling in for Zombie Ray who left the band after the first demo. There was also another Splatterreah release which was a live show on cassette tape put out by Bryan Daniels titled "Dead in Matamoros". Bryan (who was from Florida) also did a zine called Invincible Force. Splatterreah also have several unreleased live shows on video and audio along with rehersals. The band put things on hold for quite some time while they attended college to persue degrees but never stopped selling merchandise. Things had to be put on hold also because one Splatterreah member was away playing professional football as an offensive lineman for 5 years.

Also released a tape called "Obscene Phone Calls" which was just members of the band prank calling local businesses, schools, etc. One of these jokes can be heard on Impetigo's Ultimo Mondo Cannibale on the outro after "Mortado".

Note: I can't seem to find their second demo. If any of you out there know where I can get it email me at greyscale42 [at] gmail [dot] com
